Monday May 9th, British Pop Art course on Mondays face to face in Bridport, 2pm, 6wks, fee £60, venue United Hall, East Street.

The course is around the era of what becomes British Pop Art, which originated in the UK. 

We will be looking at a facinating group of painters in the wider context of post war recovery and renewal. Some of the artists, designers and photographers discussed will be: Edouardo Paolozzi, Frank Bowling, Pauline Boty, David Hockney, Barbara Hulanicki, Joe Tilson, R.B Kitaj, Derek Boshier, Patrick Caulfield, Bridget Riley, Mary Quant, Marion Foale and Sally Tuffin, David Bailey, Allen Jones and Peter Blake, plus wider contexts.

1st November Mondays 2pm-3.30pm, Art and Design History course ‘Romantic Moderns’ in art, English landscape painting. 6 wk course. This art history course will trace the significant revival of landscape painting in the generation of artists pre ww2 and afterwards, that created some beautiful and startling imagery. Some of the artists were asked to create images for the ‘Shell Guides’ and a number of other publications at that time.

1. Starts 23rd September, Thursday evenings 6.30pm, Art and Design history course taught on line via Zoom, about Medieval Art, architecture, decorative arts and painting. Tea break in middle. 6 x hour and a half lectures, fee £55.

2. Starts 24th September, Friday afternoons at 2pm, Art and Design History course taught on line via Zoom about Surrealism, with tea break in middle. We will be exploring Surrealism in all its visual forms, painting, sculpture, cinema and photography, with an international element to this course. 6 x hour and a half lectures, fee £55.

Monday 21st September or Friday 25th September - Art History six week course about 'The Nabis' - online on ‘Zoom’, 
2pm-3.40pm, with 20 minute break. 

The Nabis were a group of post-impressionist painters, for example Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard, Marguerite Serusier, Maurice Denis, Paul Serusier, and associated artists like Suzanne Valadon, active from c1888–c1900, whose bold painting and use of colour and strong use of line, created new approaches in art. These are striking and beautiful alluring paintings, which have some influence upon English art which will be touched upon.

Tutor: Pam Simpson BA(Hons), MA, PGCE,  is a professional Art and Design historian, who has taught in London art colleges for 32 years, 20 of those years at at Middlesex University (Hornsea College of Art) where she ran a department. She has also worked at the Royal College of Art and University of the Arts. She is currently teaching at Bath Spa University as an Associate Lecturer. She is an enthusiastic lecturer who loves her subject and conveying her knowledge to others. Pam has been teaching Art and Design History courses in Bridport in recent years, and since last September in Lyme Regis.
